Frequently Asked Questions

I am glad you are here! Starting your therapeutic process can evoke a variety of emotions. They’re completely valid! Keep in mind your therapist is there to support your therapeutic journey and is empathetic to the feelings you are experiencing.

Please remember there is no wrong or right in therapy as your therapist is able to provide a safe and judgement-free setting for disclosure. Please note as you go through this process, you may experience periods of discomfort, uncertainty and/or resistance while discussing your experiences. This is part of your process. As you continue to engage in sessions, gain clarity and develop your toolbox, you may notice a shift with those challenging periods as you learn to incorporate healthier techniques.

An initial encounter with your therapist can be an opportunity to build therapeutic rapport and gain clarity regarding your needs for therapy. During your first therapy session, you can expect to complete intake paperwork, review presenting concerns including symptoms, therapeutic goals, therapy methods, confidentiality and limitations.

Confidentiality is a crucial component of therapy and provides clients with the comfort to fully express themselves in a therapeutic setting. Thus, the information discussed in sessions will remain between the client and therapist unless the client provides a written authorization to share with a third party.

  • Please note there are a few exceptions to confidentiality including Abuse/Neglect of a Child or Elder, Harm to Self, Harm to Others, and Court Subpoena.
  • The intent of confidentiality is to make the client feel at ease and safe to express themselves while also understanding the ethical and legal responsibility of the therapist to keep everyone safe.
